Creating decoupage layers with Stamps

In this issue of Creative Stamping Magazine, 29 it is all about Family Celebrations, and the free stamps accompanying this edition cover cards for the whole family. My brief from the editor this time round was to demonstrate how stamps can be used to create many layered images ie. decoupage.

CS29 cover CS29 Backing Card

It can be easy to just use the stamp as is, and produce a 2 dimensional image. Of course using them this way you have the opportunity to use many of your colouring mediums to bring them to life. But sometimes it is just good to do something different, especially if you have already used the stamp many times over already.

CS29 cake easel
As well as being in a circle easel card, I have stacked and colour each of the layers of the cake.

My set of cards for you here hopefully show you that by stamping the image many times and fussy cutting out different elements of the image you can create your own 3D image. there are full written up instructions in this issue of the magazine.

i was particularly proud of these cards, because as you can see the editor chose my layered cake card as the main cover image …. I was chuffed to bits.

CS29 Flowers Expecially 4U

By stamping the floral bouquet many times and colouring each identically, i was able to cut out the flowers as individual elements and layering them together. I stamped the leaves from the free stamp set as a backdrop, before piecing the bouquet back together again.

Decorative Roses – Just one Stamp for Creative Stamping

This edition of Creative Stamping (issue 30) has a beautiful set of free stamps, and will inspire those of you who love Rennie Mackintosh designs, will absolutely love using these stamps.

I was asked to use the smallest single rose stamp, to create a set of cards, the idea being that we get the absolute most out of each set of stamps we have.

For more information follow the link Creative Stamping, issue 30

Even on it’s own, the smallest of stamps, used imaginatively can create beautiful modern cards. I havn’t used many other supplies, mainly just card stock, ink and embossing powder. Full details to make are available in the magazine.

I hope you enjoy what I have created for you!

Stamping Decoupage – Fish for Creative Stamping magazine

Hello, I have a set of cards that are appearing in the latest issue (#25)  of Creative Stamping magazine, and over the coming few weeks I will be blogging them for you.

cs25_p011490843_774259036006278_8732131474181206803_o

The magazine comes with a complimentary A4 sheet of clear stamps, and it was my brief to show how the images can be stamped and decoupaged to add dimension to your cards/projects. I have a bit of addiction where stamps are concerned,  and these ones are really up my street they are gorgeous, and stamp beautifully.

If you have bought the magazine and tried the stamps out yourself leave a comment for me with your link, I’d love to pop over and see.

Having decoupaged the fishes, I created the bubble backdrop using the 7 x 7 inch Bubble Stencil from Clarity Stamps using a mixture of Peeled Paint Distress Ink and Lost lagoon Stampin Up ink. I also used the fabulous stencil brushes also from Clarity Stamps. It was the first time I had used them and they blend the ink so so well, I would recommend you give them a try.

I think these Doves were probably my favourite stamps to work with. by stamping multiple time, and creating layers you can give some real dimension and movement to these images.

Remember that when you have cut out the individual layers, shape them slightly before adhering into place. Think about the real life form of the image you are working with. Particularly with birds, their feathers all work independently, you you can really go to town with the detail you add.

Butterflies are also another good example where this technique will work nicely,, see my previous post for a better close up photograph of how it works Stamping Decoupage – Butterfly

These colours really put me in the mood for summer, and the flowers remind me of a Hawaiian Luau.

Keeping the overall card simple, allows  the layers and the intricacy of the stamp to really stand out. I stamped the butterfly 4 times, coloured each layer identically with promarkers and cut out each image intricately before layering with silicone glue gel.

Here the Peacock, has 5 layers. I stamped the image multiple time and coloured them each identically, before using fine scissors and cutting into the intricate detail of the stamp. I love the swirls of the tail, and fabulous to colour with your favourite medium, getting the graduated colour.

As an idea, you could stamp the image many times and just cut out the tail swirls and arrange them on your project as embellishments….as stampers we are always looking at ways to make the most of our stash.
