Baby Announcement Gift Tag – For Creative Expressions

Hello, Welcome to my blog, where today I am sharing my ‘make’ for Creative Expressions. These baby announcement gift tags have been made using the Justrite ‘We are having a baby’ stamp sets and the cosmic shimmer watercolour paints….that are my new favourite thing to use at the moment. The mica content in the paints is really high, and as the paint dries, the mica really comes into its own.

I have painted MDF shapes in previous projects, so this time I wanted to show you that covering MDF with design paper is just as easy and gives gorgeous results. Of course, these designs are completely adaptable and tags like this can be gifted for all sorts of occasions.

I have created a video tutorial again for anyone who is interested in how to begin a project such as this.

Baby Cards using Iridescent Watercolours – For Creative Expressions

Its Friday, so that means I share with you my Creative Expressions make. Using Cosmic shimmer watercolour paints, and Justrite ‘We are having a baby’ stamp set, I have made two baby themed cards, and a little video tutorial showing you how I made them.

13May pink                13May green

Looking closely at the die cut bows, it looks as though I have used a pearlescent paper. I am so impressed at the coverage of these paints and the amount of mica and pigment they contain. I used the Irridescent watercolour pallet, set 8, Perfect Pastels and the colours are so pretty.

The thought of using watercolours has always frightened me, I had convinced myself that I couldn’t paint, so it took me a couple of days to work out how to use them. I wanted to come up with a fool proof way to use these paints, and show you that there are many different ways in which to use them.

I have created a little video tutorial to share some of these techniques with you, I hope you enjoy!

Creativity Is……. In the Chemistry Lab with IndigoBlu

It looks like Spring is here and we have had a glorious couple of days. Having the windows open at home really gives me a boost, I love to be able to hear just the birds singing above the silence of everyday life outside. We’ve been able to get out and about on some woodland walks, and at one stage the boys were in short sleeves……lets all hope we get ourselves some decent weather this year.

Today sees the launch of a brand new challenge on the IndigoBlu Challenge blog, and quite appropriately it is

Yellow, Pink & Green

IB Mar 2016

My immediate thought was to create something with flowers, the colours are perfect for a Spring blossom style, but I opted to go a bit out of my comfort zone and create something different.

I have lots of the new IndigoBlu stamp designs, so of course I wanted to have a play with them. I am really drawn to the new Science Geek range of products from IndigoBlu , taking me back to the days of my day job.

I also have a couple of these mini canvases, bought on a lovely day out mooching around the shops with Mum (as a celebration for getting signed off by my consultant!). I’m really chuffed with how it turned out, I will look forward to making more.

To Make

1. Create a background on a 4 x 6 inch canvas using Distress Sprays. I used Picked Raspberry and Wild Honey.

2. Colour some texture paste with some of the Wild Honey ink, and use through the geometric shape on the IndigoBlu texture stencil.

3. When the texture paste is dry, ink the IB Calculus stamp with green ink and stamp just a section over the geometric pattern. Use the green ink to also stencil some of the dots underneath the texture also.

4. Stamp the words and atomic structure (From the IB a5 set, Chemistry Lab) onto card with green ink and colour tint the card with Peeled Paint Distress ink. Cut out the atomic structure in details, and tear the edges of the wording. Add more ink to the edges to define them.

5. Stamp the hand from the IB a5 Take the Time stamp set, again using green ink, and colour tint the card with pink.

6. To embellish die cut a section of the Tim Holtz Alterations Mixed Media dies (for Sizzix thinlets) and colour this with the Picked Raspberry Distress Spray.

7. Assemble, layer and attach the elements together as shown in the photo. Complete the piece by adding a hand tied twine bow, and a decorative button.

Thanks so much for stopping by, I look forward to seeing your entries in the challenge.

Creative Expressions Zen Betty MDF Tag

Hi There

It’s all back to school for us today, so back to the normal routine of things.

I have decided to reach for the Zen Betty clear stamp set today and to dress up an MDF tag, that can be used a a door hanging. I will be using this set over the next few weeks to make a birthday gift set for my niece, who is looking forward to her 11th birthday.

Claire Newcombe 07jan16

1.Take the MDF tag shape, and apply a thin layer of adhesive to one side before covering with Craft Consortium craft papers. I have used the Crosmic Shimmer Matt Glue Seal & Glaze adhesive, it dries to touch very quickly,so that you can take an emery board (or fine grade sandpaper) to buff the edges of the tag (where the decoupage paper overhands) to ensure a smooth and neat finished edge. If you prefer you can use scissors to trim the over hang. Leave to one side to dry completely.

07Jan16 step 1

2. Stamp the figure, Zen betty using Memento Black Tuxedo ink onto white colouring cardstock and colour using alcohol colouring markers (I use promarkers). Fussy cut (quite close) the image, apply Cosmic Twinkles to the laces on the boots and set to one side to fully dry.

07Jan16 step 2

3. -Take a 3 x 5.25 inch piece of lilac cardstock and shape into a tag, cutting away the top two corners. Next take the decorative border edge from Sue Wilson’s  Diagonals Die Set (Labyrinth) and shape the two long edges.

– Decorate the lower edge this tag by stamping the linear border stamp from the Zen Betty set, and then heat emboss with Cosmic Shimmer detail embossing powder (I have used silver shine).

-Wrap three lengths of coordinating ribbon above the embossed feature, securing well on the reverse.

07Jan16 step 3

4. Assemble the components of the tag (as displayed in the photo) and complete by stamping one of the sentiments from the set and adding to the tag using silicone glue gel.

I love the sentiment, and although it is not a phrase I would use myself, I’m sure an 11 year old will be far more familiar with it. I’m hoping my Sister won’t regret me sending this to her daughter when, she announces she is having a ‘Chillax Day’ by hanging it on her bedroom door in the morning……:-) xx x

Sarah Hurley Design Papers – Calendar Page

Hello Good Morning!

October Half term has arrived, and last night we had our first wet and wild evening of autumn. To be honest we have been so lucky with the weather – October has been glorious with crisp mornings giving way to bright sunny days and ending with chilly evenings.

Yesterday was no exception, and being Saturday, I took a day off from the craft room to be outside to get down to those garden jobs that I have staring at through the kitchen window. We popped out to lunch, came back, put the wellies and gloves on and got stuck in. So pleased I was in the right frame of mind, the afternoon was warm and bright, the boys were giggling and amusing themselves with their games, and the flower beds got smartened up. Some major work happened, and now I can delegate jobs to my willing 14 year old son, we are much more productive. He  jumped at the chance to chop  down some overgrown shrubs….what made me laugh afterwards was how he buried/camouflaged himself completely in the surplus shrubs….Bear Grylls stylee!

Today is a day in the kitchen and as this post goes live I have a chicken into roast,  scones baking in the oven, and a post going live on the Sarah Hurley 365 blog with my latest calendar page.  I have created October’s calendar page using a selection of Sarah Hurley Design papers

Nordic Style Stamped Christmas cards – Creative Stamping 27

Hello and Welcome!

Creative Stamping 27 has landed on the shelves and I really can’t wait to get my copy, because I absolutely loved working with the FREE Woodland Christmas themed stamps available with this issue. I cannot wait to see how my fellow contributors used these gorgeous stamps (I think they have been my favourite ones so far ;-))
CS27 cover and stamps

I was asked to make 5 cards for this issue in the ever popular, Nordic Style stamped Christmas cards.

In the issue I talk you through how to make each card, and what sort of features to include to capture the Nordic Style. I have used only the FREE cover stamps to create the patterns (no design paper at all), some plain cardstock and minimal embellishments.

Over the next few posts I will reveal another card, for you. Today I’m giving you a closer look at my ‘Stag’ card that you can see featured on the front cover.

This card sums up the Nordic Style,

  • the monochromatic (red/white colour scheme)
  • the Stag of course
  • and also the repeating patterns.

I created the repeating patterns using the various smaller stamps in the set, and also added some houndstooth ribbon, and in the magazine I have provided a step by step tutorial on how to achieve this look.

CS27 Stag

The ‘Stag’s Head’ stamp is a beauty, and is VERY fashionable and on-trend for christmas styling this year. Just looking at the social media interest in this issue when first glimpse of the cover was released yesterday (8th Oct 2015), I noticed you are all excited by this stamp – I hope you will share your cards on the CREATIVE STAMPING FACEBOOK page for us all to see.

Head to the More Mags website to order your copy

Thank you so much for joining me today, hope you like what I’ve created and will join me again soon.

A Few of My Favourite Things calendar page for Sarah Hurley

Hi There.

Today I’m revealing my calendar page for September over on the Sarah Hurley 365 blog.

Using the brightly coloured papers from Augusts AFOMFT kit, I had a loose theme of ‘Back to School’. Being a parent, it is this time of year that the sorting of new uniforms and the purchasing of books and stationary takes place (again!).

I kept the design simple as the colours are so bold and make enough of a statement.
